Get Out: Zydeco, Beethoven and French Cabaret

Another weekend, another chance to get out and explore the amazing Oak Park and River Forest area.

Who needs plans? You need plans. And our weekly "Get Out" feature, filled with the top five, handpicked events happening around town, is designed to get you there.  

ART DANS DA LE RUE
When/Where: 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday on North Marion Street between Lake Street and North Boulevard.
Why Go: Get French and fancy more than 25 local artists from Oak Park Arts District galleries and businesses will line Marion Street to display their works. That’s in addition to live performances from TransenDance, French cabaret singer Claudia Hommel and European ensemble, Steve Gibons.

C.J. CHENIER & HIS RED HOT LOUISIANA BAND
When/Where: 9 p.m. Friday at FitzGerald’s, 6615 W. Roosevelt Road in Berwyn.

When/Where: 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Sunday at , 225 Harrison St. in Oak Park.
Why Go: The “church with no preaching” returns with a family-friendly Sunday morning performance of "Quiet City" by Aaron Copland along with music of Haydn, Johann Wilhelm Hertel and Oskar Böhme performed by members of the DuPage Symphony Orchestra: Margie Arito, oboe, Mike Brozick, trumpet, Mark Lindeblad, piano.
Price: $10 adults/ $5 children/student


When/Where: Noon to 3 p.m. Sunday at the ARC Building, 18 Chicago Ave. in Oak Park
Why Go: Tempted to skate with the Derby Lite gals? Watch a demonstration of their no-impact, non-competive roller skating fitness class. Bring a helmet, and they’ll provide the skates and gear so you can give it a roll.

SUMMER STROLL
When/Where: 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at , 738 Thatcher Ave. in River Forest.
Why Go: It’s a Sunday afternoon stroll through the nature center’s gardens and woods, where a full abundance of wildlife — “busy bees and butterflies, summer wildflowers, and other seasonal delights” will be on display.
