Hemingway Suicide To Pass Without Fanfare

Local foundation in Oak Park and fan societies across nation won't glorify 50th anniversary of famed author's death.

The upcoming 50th anniversary of Ernest Hemingway's suicide won't be recognized by the Oak Park foundation bearing his name.

"We don't consider that a particularly big event for any number of reasons," Allan Baldwin, former chairman of the Ernest Hemingway Foundation of Oak Park told Chicago Tribune."We really don't get into those types of things."

Still, the author's suicide by shotgun blast, which took place July 2 1961, serves as somewhat of a milestone — and, according to the Tribune story, it's among the first things people ask about when they visit the Hemingway museum and birthplace in Oak Park.
