Oak Park native Kathy Griffin became the third woman to win the Grammy for best comedy album.

Oak Park native Kathy Griffin Sunday became the third woman to win the Grammy award for best comedy album after six years of receiving the nomination.

"Six years in a row and I finally won... Thank you!," Griffin said as she accepted the award. "...In the history of best comedy album, only two other women have won: Lily Tomlin and Whoopi Goldberg—I stand in good company."

According to the Cook County Clerk's website, Griffin, 53, grew up in Forest Park and attended St. Bernardine Elementary School and Oak Park and River Forest High School. Her first television appearance was as an extra on a Chicago White Sox commercial, according to the Clerk's office.
