A New Year at OPRF: Q&A With Principal Nathaniel Rouse

In a Q&A with Patch, Oak Park and River Forest High School Principal Nathaniel Rouse says he plans to get into more classrooms this year, and advises teachers and parents to stay connected with students.

Oak Park-River Forest Patch: What's new and/or different at OPRFHS this year?  

Nathaniel Rouse: In keeping with best practices in school safety, we’ve added a buzzer system of entry to our Welcome Center. Another new thing this year is our revamped student planner, which has executive functioning strategies to better help students organize themselves and their school work.

Patch: What are your goals for the 2013-14 year? What did you learn in 2012-13 that you'll keep in mind when starting the new year?

Rouse: This year I want to make sure there is a better balance between providing the instructional leadership that’s required of a principal versus handling the nuts and bolts of operating a school—simply put, I will be getting into more classrooms this year.
