Briejo Closed. Now What?

Oak Park Arts District restaurant goes dark.

It looks like Briejo, the eclectic, laid-back fine dining restaurant in the Oak Park Arts District, has closed.

The news was delivered to customers via the restaurant's Twitter feed on July 17, which read "Sad to say tonite was our last night. Went out on top helping a worthy cause. Thanks 2 everyone who supported us over past 2 1/2 years."

But it's unclear if they're actually gone for good.

Callers to the restaurant have been greeted with a voice message saying the restaurant at 211 Harrison St. is "closed until further notice," with an invitation to leave a name and number to make reservations "for a future date."

The restaurant recently ran a popular Groupon deal, with more than 1,000 diners snapping up a $20 for $40 deal. The fate of that deal is uncertain, but Groupon's website indicates that the company will "make sure you get your money back" if a business shuts down.
