The Brown Cow Serves Up Black Friday Waffle Treats

After a late night of shopping (or for those fueling up for a long Friday) stop by The Brown Cow in Forest Park for their annual waffle sunday bar.

If you're not still stuffed from Thanksgiving dinner the morning after, a local ice cream parlor has a treat sure to draw crowds to Forest Park on Black Friday.

The Brown Cow will be holding its annual Black Friday Waffle Bar from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Nov. 23.

"It was started as a way for shoppers to refuel while heading out to the local shops," said owner Connie Brown.

Now in its ninth year, Brown said she expects to serve some 130 shoppers looking for a special treat.

The Brown Cow cooks up Belgium-style waffles made to order, which is then topped with a scoop of your favorite ice cream flavor, before letting customers loose on their expansive topping selection. Toppings include nuts, fruits, whipped cream, a selection of syrups and a wide assortment of candies to add flavor to your Black Friday waffle.

"It's a holiday tradition in Forest Park," Brown said. "Locals bring their whole family in when they don't feel like cooking."

If you think anytime before noon is too early for ice cream (it's not), there's plenty of other items on the menu that might interest you. Try a sausage and bacon parfait, for example.

"We've got great coffee too," Brown said. "We serve "

She's right; it's roasted right in Forest Park and it doesn't get more local than that!

Customers can also pick up their orders to go, Brown said, if they would prefer to dine on their waffles at home and just send dad in to collect.

If you miss the waffle bar on Black Friday, you can still get a waffle sunday the rest of the year as well: it's available as a party option on the menu all year round.
