Why Go: Organizers of this teen event say "effects specialists will apply gruesome makeup before you lumber down the runway. Feed on zombie snacks, lumber to the music and win prizes."

Why Go: Arrive in costume to the store, which will be transformed into "River Hallow," with games and songs in the cafe.

TRUCK OR TREAT
When/Where: 5 to 7 p.m. Friday in the Pleasant District (South Marion Street)
Why Go: In a nod to the ongoing construction taking place in the area, local business will host trick-or-treating kids, doling out "construction tokens, treat bags, and hard hats for kids." After that, families are invited to dinner at , , , , and/or , all of which are offering family dining specials and construction-themed coloring and activity sheets for kids.

HALLOWEEN SKATE
When/Where: 5:45 to 7:45 p.m. at , 415 Lake St. in Oak Park.
Why Go: Spooky music, games and refreshments and special treats for the first 100 costumed skaters.
Price: $6 per person or by season pass

FRIGHT NIGHT AT THE CONSERVATORY
When/Where: 6 to 8 p.m. at the , 615 Garfield St.
Why Go: The conservatory goes dark, daring participants — it's good for kids aged 12 to 18 — to make their way through and endure the strange sounds, unexplained movements and other haunts.

HALLOWEEN ORGAN CONCERT
When/Where: 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Friday at , 324 N. Oak Park Ave. in Oak Park.
Why Go: Organists Jerry Jelsema, Steven Betancourt, Josh Lucas and Natalie Niskanen of the American Guild of Organists' Chicago chapter will make spooky use of the church's 1925 E.M. Skinner piper organ, churning out pieces by Gounod, Marriott, Bach, Boëllmann, Mulet and Gigout.

Why Go: 93 WXRT's Regular Guy will present the campy sci-fi 1936 flick The Invisible Ray, which stars Boris Karloff and Béla Lugosi. The screening will be preceded by an episode of Flash Gordon.

ROOSEVELT ROAD ZOMBIE WALK & PUB CRAWL
When/Where: Begins 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Culver's and Citizen's Community Bank in Berwyn.
Why Go: Horrorbles is helping with zombie make-up from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. After you're in your best zombie gear, you'll be led — no talking, just moaning and groaning — to Berwyn bars 12th Street Rag, Commodore Berry VFW Post, Friendly Tap, and FitzGerald’s, where the Ghost of Rock Stars Past party begins at 6:30 p.m. with David & the Happenings and Purple Hank

DAY OF THE DEAD PARTY
When/Where: 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Saturday at , 144 S. Oak Park Ave.
Why Go: Come in costume, or get your face painted, then eat, drink and dance the night away at this annual celebration, which features the Steve Edwards Orchestra.

CREATURES OF THE NIGHT
When/Where: 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at , 738 Thatcher Ave. in River Forest.
Why Go: Kids age 7 to 12 are invited, along with adults, to learn about nocturnal animals that creep while we sleep.
Price: $1 per child; registration required


When/Where: 1:15 p.m. Monday at , 178 Forest Ave. in Oak Park
Why Go: Author and storyteller Brian "Fox" Ellis brings Edgar Allen Poe to life by telling true stories of the famed author's life. He'll also recite The Raven and The Tell-Tale Heart, along with some lesser-known works.
