Lou Malnati's Opening in Early 2014 in Oak Park

There was a little delay, but Lou Malnati's, which has some of the best pizza in the whole damn country—according to Thrillist—will soon be open in Oak Park (assuming you think January is pretty soon, because it is).

Lou Malnati's should be open at 1038 Lake St. in downtown Oak Park in January 2014, according to a recent tweet from the restaurant group.

Slated to open this fall, Lou Malnati's wrote, "We had delays with some other construction projects we were working on and were not able to start in Oak Park as planned."

A spokesman for Lou Malnati's told the Wednesday Journal the company secured permits to begin interior demolition this week. The restaurant will also be up for discussion as an agenda item at the village's upcoming Liquor Control Review Board meeting on Oct. 22. The details of the agenda item were not immediately available.

Lou Malnati's recently received a bit of national acclaim, when lifestyle publication Thrillist included their deep-dish pizza in its list of “the 33 best in the whole damn country.”

Thrillist's Matt Lynch wrote that while New Yorkers argue that deep-dish "isn't pizza," and that his brother might disown him for picking Lou's over Giordano's, "I like to think a tomato-topped slice with just the right amount (in this case, the right amount is a lot) of cheese and a whole damn layer of sausage can heal all disputes.

"Oh, also it's on "buttercrust". Just whisper it to yourself. Buttercrust."

So, you've got that going for you, Oak Park.
