Great bands offering special releases. Get 'em at local record stores on Friday.

Forget elbowing the huddles masses at big box stores. Why not nudge your way into the crates at the area's record stores for Record Store Day's Black Friday?

Friday's event is an offshoot of the popular annual Record Store Day, in which bands offer special limited releases for a one-day sale at records stores across the nation. Check out the official list of releases, attached as a PDF.

And just like it's springtime predecessor, stores in the Oak Park area will once again be in on the action. Here's a look at where to go:

One store that won't be participating is , 179 S. Oak Park Ave. Owner Alan Heffelfinger said many of the special releases won't appeal to his store's customer base. Instead, he'll be offering 20 percent off all used LPs, CDs, DVDs and VHS tapes.

What will the other stores have in their bins? Will it be an Iron & Wine release? A four-LP Janis Joplin box set? John Lennon music? A Nirvana rarity? Phish's legendary White Tape? All of the above? None of the above but something equally great?
