Stiletto Race to Benefit Sarah's Inn, Mercy Home

Nora's Shoe Shop in Oak Park is celebrating its fifth anniversary with a charitable race. The only catch? Try doing it in 2-inch heels. The top three finishers get awesome prizes, and an exclusive sale will follow the event.

Nora's Shoe Shop is celebrating five years in business with two big events: a sale at its Geneva location and a Stiletto Race around Oak Park, where the original location is based.

Owner Nora Brennan opened the shop in Oak Park, saying there was a "need for a women's shoe store in the area that would offer beautiful, comfortable and fashion forward shoes and accessories."

Five years and a new location later, Brennan said things have been great, and changing every day. A full online store also launched last summer, making shopping availble 24/7.

To celebrate five years in business, the Geneva location, at 12 N. 2nd St. in Geneva, is having a "Spring Soiree" event from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. April 16. It includes 25 percent off all regularly priced merchandise (this is only at the Geneva location).

The big event, though, is Nora's Stiletto Race, starting at 8 a.m. Sunday, May 5.

A stiletto race is was it sounds like: the shop says, "no laces permitted—doll it up a little!" The event costs $20 to participate, and that will be donated to Sarah's Inn, a domestic violence shelter, and Mercy Home.

"We do our best to support organizations in the community and believe in Sarah's Inn mission to offer a place of freedom to women and their families from violent situations," Brennan said.

The race starts at 8 a.m., but it's recommended that you check in by 7:45 a.m. at Nora's Shoe Shop. It's open to all walkers and runners. Entry forms are available at both the Oak Park and Geneva locations, and only cash is accepted.

A lucky first-place winner will get a $500 gift certificate to Nora's, and second- and third-place winners get a gift basket filled with Nora's favorite picks from local retailers.

To qualify to win those prizes, though, you must wear at least a 2-inch heel or wedge.

An exlusive shopping event featuring 25 percent off merchandise will follow the race, and refreshments will be served.
