Yipit: Deals by Map in this App

Aggregating the best of deal sites, the Yipit mobile app lets you find deals near you.

With the huge boom in deal sites led by Groupon and LivingSocial, it was only a matter of time until someone started aggregating all the coupons and deals in one place.

The Yipit mobile app offers a clever, interactive solution.

Not only can you sign up for Yipit like any other deal service, but you can also search by category and location. Taking advantage of the iPhone's "Where am I now?" functionality, Yipit can show daily deals near you.

The rub for suburbanites: Deals are much more dense the closer you get to the city. (See the slideshow for examples.)

Still, it's worth it. Yipit aggregates 802 daily coupon sites, with more coming online. (Patch has its own Patch Deals, and Amazon has waded into the local deals marketplace.) What I like about this particular app is its ability to filter and browse by categories such as fitness, dining & nightlife and retail & services.

Some have debated the demise of Groupon and deal sites in general, but with the New York Times and other media companies jumping on board, the market is clearly not saturated. Just look at the urban vs. suburban maps in my sample gallery, above.

There's so much room to grow, especially in the suburbs, that Yipit is well-positioned to steer mobile users to local money-saving opportunities.
