Expert in Head and Neck Cancer Surgery on Loyola's Otolaryngology Team

James J. Jaber, MD, PhD, has joined Loyola University Health System’s head and neck cancer team. He also is an assistant professor in the Department of Otolaryngology at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine.

His medical interests include head and neck cancers, difficulty breathing, facial paralysis, skull base surgery, throat laser surgery, thyroid cancer, transoral robotic surgery, voice box laser surgery, skin cancers of the head and neck and minimally invasive video-assisted thyroidectomy.

He has been the lead and co-investigator on several research projects involving head and neck cancer, and is co-director of the Otolaryngology Translational Research Laboratory.  His research includes the development of head and neck anti-cancer drugs and mitigating the effects of radiation toxicity for his patients. He has written book chapters and presented at medical conferences around the world. He is published in numerous medical journals including Ear, Nose and Throat Journal, American Journal of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Medicine and Surgery and Laryngoscope.   

Dr. Jaber earned his medical degree from Albany Medical College and his doctorate of chemistry for the University of California, Irvine. He completed a residency in otolaryngology at Loyola University Medical Center and a fellowship in advanced head and neck oncologic surgery from University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

Dr. Jaber sees patients at the Loyola Outpatient Center and Cardinal Bernardin Cancer Center, both located on the main medical center campus in Maywood.
