Madison Street Business Owners Step Up for Kids

Four Madison Street businesses in Forest Park raised a total of $1,365.00 for the West Suburban Special Recreation Association (WSSRA) Day Camp program. The annual WSSRA Fun in the Sun campaign ran June 8 through July 8, 2013 at Molly Malone’s, Shanahan’s, Short Stop Lounge and Jimmy’s Place. Once again, Jimmy’s Place collected the most donations for the WSSRA Day Campers raising $960.00. Jimmy’s customers decorated the walls with paper camper cut-outs to demonstrate their support after offering a cash donation to the WSSRA scholarship fund.

“WSSRA day camps help children grow skills through play. Camp activities are designed to increase speech and language skills, gross motor abilities and social skills. Day camp is something that both the parents and the campers look forward to each year. Forest Park and Oak Park residents probably saw our campers around town a lot as we swim daily at Rehm Pool, and the Forest Park Aquatic Center. We have camp locations at Forest Park Middle School and at three Oak Park schools as well as in Berwyn, Cicero and Franklin Park. WSSRA programs help our participants enjoy their leisure time in their own communities. On behalf of our scholarship recipients, I thank the staff and customers of Jimmy’s,” Birko stated.

For more information on WSSRA visit www.wssra.net or call 847-455-2100. WSSRA serves individuals of all ages with any kind of disability who live in the Park Districts of Oak Park, River Forest, Forest Park and eight other communities.
