Well-Known General Surgeon Joins Loyola’s Surgery Team at Gottlieb Memorial Hospital

Loyola University Health System is pleased to welcome Michael R. DeHaan, MD, FACS, to its general surgery team at Gottlieb Memorial Hospital. Dr. DeHaan is well-known in the western suburbs for his outstanding surgical technique and care of patients.

His clinical interests include breast cancer surgery, hernia, dialysis access vascular surgical procedures, minimally invasive surgery, colorectal cancer, peripheral vascular diseases and wounds.

Before joining Loyola DeHaan held numerous leadership roles at suburban hospitals including being the president of the medical staff and chairman of the Department of Surgery at West Suburban Hospital.

He is a sought-after lecturer and teacher having received several teaching awards including one from the American Academy of Family Physicians for his excellence in teaching.

DeHaan is a fellow in the American College of Surgeons and a member of numerous professional organizations including the American Society of Breast Surgeons, American Society of General Surgeons, Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons and Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons.

He earned his medical degree from the University of Illinois at Rockford School of Medicine and completed a residency in general surgery at Rush-Presbyterian St. Luke Medical Center, now Rush Medical Center. He received training in laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery from Virginia Commonwealth University and Tufts New England Medical Center.
