A Crowd of 500 Visits District 97's Booth at Day in Our Village

A crowd of 500 people visited District 97's booth during the recent Day in Our Village event. Superintendent Al Roberts and members of the Board of Education spent the day greeting event attendees, handing out school and district-specific pencils to children, answering questions about our schools and providing updates about the progress the district has made following the passage of the referendum in April 2011 (http://www.op97.org/referendum/).

In addition, there was contest in which students could win a neon green district logoed eraser for everyone in their school if they came closest to guessing the total number of erasers in a jar. The winner of the contest was Josephine Welin from Hatch Elementary School, whose guess of 570 came within one of the exact number (571). Thanks to Josephine, all of the students and staff at Hatch will receive one of the special giveaways at the start of the 2013-2014 school year.

Other notable guesses in the contest were submitted by Abbey Welsh (563) and Payton Lowenthal-Wojcik (560) from Whittier Elementary School, Joel Adkin from Beye Elementary School and Mitchell Landerman from Irving Elementary School who both guessed 550, and Sheridan Moore from Beye Elementary School and Jessica Singer from Holmes Elementary School who both guessed 543. A special honorable mention goes to Alison Mieczkowski from Holmes Elementary School who was knocked out of the running by guessing over the total number, but, like Josephine, only missed the mark by one.

The district would like to thank Dressel's Hardware, located at 1137 Chicago Avenue in Oak Park, for its generous donation of supplies for our booth, the members of our buildings and grounds crew for their help with the logistics for the event, and the citizens of Oak Park for their continued commitment to education and support of our schools.
