Beat the Heat in Oak Park Cooling Centers

The Village of Oak Park provides free cooling centers for residents without AC, and a few tips for staying safe in extreme heat.

As we head into the hottest time of the summer public health officials are reminding residents that protection from the heat is vital for everyone.

The Village of Oak Park provides relief from the heat to residents without air conditioning at the following free cooling centers:        

Heat exhaustion:

Heat exhaustion occurs when exercising heavily or working in a warm, humid place, according to the Village of Oak Park. Symptoms include cool, moist, pale, flushed or red skin; heavy sweating; headache; nausea or vomiting; dizziness; and exhaustion. 

The Village of Oak Park advises residents to drink water continuously on hot days and avoid caffeine and alcohol. If someone is suffering from a heat-related illness, they should be taken to a cooler place and given a half glass of cool water every 15 minutes.
