River Forest Book Sale Begins Friday

Need some summer reading? Doors open for popular weekend event at 5 p.m.

Reading enthusiasts will have something to celebrate this weekend as the Friends of the River Forest Library Book Sale returns.

The sale, which normally takes place every two years, was so successful last year that it’s back again for an early repeat performance, organizers said.

Hardcovers, paperbacks and audiobooks, as well as music and movies, will all be up for grabs beginning Friday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at , which is adjacent to the library.

A $5 entry fee is required on the opening day for those who aren’t Friends of the River Forest Library members. Saturday and Sunday admissions are free.

Hadley Ford, information technology and digital resources librarian, said the entry fee also allows patrons to get the best selection.

“They do a lot of classification so that you can really find what you’re looking for pretty easily,” she said. “They’ve probably got 50 different categories over there.”

The book sale will continue from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and from noon to 3 p.m. on Sunday. Sunday customers can pay $5 for an unlimited amount of books.

“I believe the next time will be two years from now, so they should come take advantage,” Ford said. “It’s a great fundraiser for their organization and they support us directly with funds they receive throughout the year.

“If you’re into books and supporting your local library, it’s a great time to show your support.”
