Storm Damage? Tell Us About It

Tuesday storm rips through the area. How's everyone doing out there?

Update, 10:34 p.m. A word from director John Wielebnicki: "I've got a 7 men [crew] on their way in to clear any major streets. Don't have any details except for a few blockages."

Update, 10:22 p.m. The Sun-Times reports more than 300 flights at O'Hare International Airport and 30 flights at Midway Airport have been canceled. Many more flights are delayed. 

Update, 10:10 p.m. The ComEd outage map is showing massive outages (10,000 and up) from the Maywood substation, which serves the Oak Park and River Forest area. Here's their guidelines for reporting storm damage.

If you had hatches, I hope they were battened down.

A line of severe and "tornadic" storms barreled through the area Tuesday, causing wind damage and downed tree limbs throughout portions of Oak Park and River Forest.

Around 8:35 p.m. Tuesday, I was on the Eisenhower Expressway when hell pretty much broke loose. Heroically, our little Honda Accord plunged through the driving rain. We made it off the Harlem Avenue exit, then busted a right onto Madison Street to check out damage from the in-progress storm.

Scary stuff on South Maple Avenue — we had to dodge some small tree limbs blowing across the road as the sky glowed green. Big lightning, too.

Winds at O'Hare International Airport were clocked at 70 mph, according to the Chicago Weather Center blog. 

By 9:20 p.m., the National Weather Service in Chicago had called off its severe thunderstorm warning; a severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect through 1 a.m. Wednesday.
