Ah, Twitter. 

Whether you love or loathe it — it's been established that New York Times executive editor Bill Keller isn't a fan; but much of his newsroom is, and really, who cares — the 140-character messaging service has revolutionized the way we communicate. It's been used to seek sources for news stories, debunk rumors, facilitate worldwide conversations, share deals, expose injustice, start revolutions. 

In short, it's changed everything. 

But it can be a lot to follow. 

We're here to help, if only at the local level. 

By no means exhaustive, this guide will provide you with the Twitter accounts of Oak Park and River Forest news outlets, elected officials and local organizations using Twitter. Some are Twitterholics. Others log on much less frequently. 

Either way, we feel it's a public service, of sorts, to let you know what public officials and taxpayer-funded organizations are on Twitter.

We'll start small, but it's our hope that readers can add more local Twitter accounts in the comment section below this article. Once that happens, I'll be sure to plug them into the existing story.
