Community Corner

Bye Bye Bike Drive & Giveaway

How many bikes are in your garage gathering dust? Most Oak Parkers have at least one bike that has been outgrown, neglected, or forgotten, stashed away somewhere. No need to feel guilty that it was never used to tackle a 100 mile ride, now it can be used to benefit a community hundreds of miles away.

Greenline Wheels is partnering with Working Bikes Cooperative to host a bike drive in Oak Park. The bike drive will take place:

Saturday, August 10th, 2013

9am to 6pm

Bring your unwanted bikes (rusty and broken bikes welcome!) to Greenline Wheels. In exchange for your donation, Greenline Wheels will give you a coupon for 10% off one bike accessory. You'll also be entered into a raffle to win a new bike or a bike gear gift basket.

“The goal is to take bikes that are likely headed to the landfill and redirect them to make an impact in someone else’s life,” explains Chidinma Anigbogu, the Greenline Wheels staff member coordinating the event. “What may be considered clutter to somebody here in Oak Park could mean transportation to food, work, and water to somebody in another country.”

All bikes donated will be given to Working Bikes Cooperative, a Chicago-based non-profit organization that recovers landfill-bound bicycles, repairs them to working condition, and sells them to Chicagoans at a low cost in order to fund shipments of bicycles and bike parts to developing countries.
