On the fourth Saturday in September you can count one thing from the Warriors at Opportunity Knocks. They’ll be in the park playing softball at the OK Classic. The OK Classic is a one day, 20-team, co-ed, 14-inch, charity softball tournament. It has also become a festival full with food, live music and fun for the whole family. Proceeds from this event go to benefit the Warriors at Opportunity Knocks, a non-profit organization serving individuals with developmental disabilities.

Opportunity Knocks has been offering the ‘After Opps Program,’ an after-school, after-work social and recreation-based program for teens and young adults with developmental disabilities for more than 4 years now. Most recently, OK launched their second phase, a day program for adults older than 22. The program is currently in the fourth week of the year long pilot and running smoothly for the 10 participants enrolled. Between both programs, OK serves more than 50 individuals annually from the Oak Park, River Forest and Forest Park area.

The OK Classic is Opportunity Knock’s marquee fundraiser, leading the way amongst four annual events that combine to provide more than 75% of the funds necessary to operate the organization. Opportunity Knocks is nearly completely privately funded. Through this effort there is a rally of support that includes more than 1000 private donors, over 1200 attendees on the day of the event, more than 45 sponsors, 110 volunteers and 380 softball players coming together to support Opportunity Knocks.
