What's New: The Best of Children's Literature 2013

Dominican University’s Graduate School of Library and Information Science will host renowned children’s literature expert Dr.
Peggy Sharp for “What’s New: The Best of Children’s Literature 2013,” a
professional development seminar for teachers, librarians, and other adults
working with children who would like to shore up their youth collections and
programming.


The event will be held on Friday, November 1, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at

Dominican University’s Priory Campus, 7200 West Division Street, River Forest.


Sharp is well known for her presentations about new children's books,

connecting books to all areas of the curriculum, and motivating children to

read. She is an experienced teacher and library media specialist and has

received national awards for her creative teaching ideas. 


Learn about the best new children's books published in 2013, and specific strategies for using the literature in this motivational and
practical workshop. This session will be jam-packed with ready-to-use-tomorrow
ideas for all program areas. Relevant older titles will also be covered.

Participants will:

•preview the best new children’s books—fiction, nonfiction, picture books

•learn about current and future, hot topics in children’s literature

•discuss the latest technological developments affecting children’s literature

•learn outstanding teaching strategies for new books as well as old favorites

useful for all elementary students in all curriculum areas
•learn how to engage young readers with literature.

Cost for the event is $130. Lunch, breaks and handouts are included. A total of
