Empty Bowls at OPRF

Community dinner event sends proceeds to local, national and international hunger relief efforts.

Local potters, restaurateurs and students and faculty at Oak Park-River Forest High School are hard at work preparing for Friday's Empty Bowls Project Community Dinner.

Here's how it works: For $15, adults can purchase a handmade bowl, then join the community for a sit-down dinner of soup and bread donated by local restaurants. It's $10 for students.

Proceeds will be sent to the Oak Park-River Forest Food Pantry, West Suburban PADS and Global Alliance for Africa. Organizers say donations from last year's event totaled about $10,000.

The dinner takes place from 6-8 p.m. at the high school, located at 201 N. Scoville Ave.

Participating restaurants and grocery stores include Avenue Ale House, The Buzz Cafe, Cafe De Lucca, Dominick's, Duckfat, George's Family Restaurant, Healy's Westside, Hemmingway's Bistro, Jimmy John's, Jimmy's Place, Lake Street Kitchen + Bar, Louie's Grill, Maya Del Sol, Munch, The Perfect Dinner, Red Hen Bread, Starship Subs, Trader Joe's and Winberie's.
