Oak Park Hero Thwarts Train Station Attack
Craig Mathis was walking past the Forest Park CTA station when he heard a woman scream and ran to help.
One good deed begets another. Such was the case for an Oak Park hero who heard a woman's screams in the wee hours of Tuesday morning and rushed to her aid.
Craig Mathis and a friend were walking home from a night-out to celebrate Mathis' donation of a kidney to a childhood friend about a year ago when they heard screaming near the Forest Park CTA station. They saw a man attacking a woman.
Mathis called 911 and then ran to the woman, intent on tackling the man. At that moment, Forest Park police rolled up and arrested him.
