Oak Parker to Give Keynote Address at MLK Jr. Breakfast

NeAngela Marshall, a 2004 graduate of North Central College, will share her message, "Use Your Words!" based on the College's theme for MLK Week, "The Power of Words" at a Jan. 20 memorial breakfast.

Oak Parker NeAngela Marshall, J.D., a 2004 graduate of North Central College, will be the featured speaker at North Central's Jan. 20 Prayer Breakfast honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his birthday, according to a news release from North Central College.

The title of her message is "Use Your Words!" and is based on the College's theme for MLK Week, "The Power of Words."

Marshall is an assistant state's attorney with the Cook County State's Attorney's Office, the second largest county prosecution office in the country. She is assigned to the office's Domestic Violence Division. As a prosecutor, she handles criminal appeals and trials related to sexual violence, domestic violence, and child abuse and neglect. Prior to attending law school, she worked for the Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) program where she recruited and trained volunteers to advocate for abused and neglected children in the Cook County Juvenile Court system.

While a student at North Central College, Marshall majored in organizational communication and later graduated from the Northern Illinois University College of Law in 2011. During law school she clerked for the Cook County State's Attorney's Office as well as the Presiding Judge of the Juvenile Justice Division of the Circuit Court of Cook County. She has a strong passion for women's and children's advocacy.

North Central College's Martin Luther King Week is an annual celebration of the College's history of building bridges among cultures. The weeklong observance includes an art exhibit titled "The Chicago Freedom Movement Photography" by Bernard J. Kleina, musical concert and tribute to King by the Chicago Sinfonietta, keynote address by Grammy-winning hip-hop artist Common, and more.

In 1960, King visited North Central College and spoke to the campus community in Pfeiffer Hall. Martin Luther King Week events are coordinated by the College's Office of Multicultural Affairs and Office of Ministry and Service.
