The Courage to Take Action

Tomorrow we celebrate what would have been Martin Luther King, Jr's 85th birthday. We celebrate an African-American pastor who is recognized for his tireless efforts to win civil rights for all people through nonviolent means - ironic his life was cut short by violence.

He taught us that change takes tireless effort and the kind of courage that comes from strong convictions about what is right and what is wrong. We have come along way, but, like most things, change is constant and needs to be practiced daily.

As a caregiver and human being, we should draw inspiration and courage from the life and legacy of one man who made a true difference in the lives of countless.

“On some positions, Cowardice asks the question, "Is it safe?" Expediency asks the question, "Is it politic?" And Vanity comes along and asks the question, "Is it popular?" But Conscience asks the question "Is it right?" And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular, but he must do it because Conscience tells him it is right.” ----- Martin Luther King, Jr.
