Traditions - Old and New

This time of year is filled with traditions -- each of us grew up with certain activities, foods, events, etc. that defined what "your family did for the holidays". And, each of us brings those to the party as we grow up, leave home, get married, get divorced, loose a family member, etc., and, along with those traditions we bring, we develop our own new traditions that may be something new, a reenactment of old traditions, or a blend of several old and new traditions. Sometimes, old traditions are no longer applicable and new ones are created.

Here's hoping that as we approach the holidays, we take the time to enjoy old traditions and develop new ones, bringing a comfortable blend of familiar with the here and now -- because life should neither stand still or blindly live in the past.

As an old girl scout song said, "Make new friends but keep the old, one is silver and the other gold."
