Local Artist Amani Borah's Exhibit "Maji Mazito"

Local artist Amani Borah had a pretty awesome reception today, kicking off the month-long showing of his art at the Oak Park Public Library.

Local artist Amani Borah had a pretty awesome reception Sunday, kicking off the month-long showing of his art at the Oak Park Public Library.  The exhibit is called Maji Mazito, or "strong water" in Swahili.  There was a great turnout, with many members of the Oak Park Arts District and the Oak Park Art League coming to show their support.

Amani is originally from Mombasa, Kenya but now lives just 2 floors below me with his wife Cynthia.  Lucky for me I saw the invitation for today's reception in our laundry room!

Amani's art is bright and colorful, with festive splashes of neon hues and even glitter.  From images of village life in Kenya to flowers, animals and abstract designs inspired by his dreams, Amani's art pops from the wall with an inspiring vibrancy.  It's hard to not to be enthralled with the bold colors and detailed drawings, all coming together for an uplifting folk-art inspired style.

But of course, you'll have to see it up close to truly enjoy it.  You can check out the photos of some of my favorites here, or better yet go see the exhibit for yourself in the small meeting room on the second floor of the Oak Park Public Library.

Amani is a resident artist at Dancing Krow Studio in the Arts District.  Stop by to see him there during the Third Friday Gallery Walk or contact Cynthia Borah  at 708.383.2092 for more info.

A BIG shout-out to the Oak Park Library for its support of local artists and its dedicated staff.  As I was leaving the library today, I overheard someone walking in say "this is a library?!"  Yeah... our library is pretty extraordinary.
