Explore Belgium and the Netherlands with Bob and Cora Burton

Explore Belgium and the Netherlands without leaving Oak Park. Bob and Cora Burton present these cultures on Thursday, September 13 at Oak Park Public Library.

Learn why Belgium and the Netherlands boast much more than windmills and wooden shoes. Long-time Oak Park residents and over-seas travelers Bob and Cora Burton will showcase the culture, art, and history of these cultures on Thursday, September 13 at 2 pm at Oak Park Public Library, 834 Lake Street. If you have stories, interesting items or photos from Belgium and the Netherlands, please bring them to share. Refreshments will be served.

At this armchair travel event, Bob and Cora Burton will show how the lands of Belgium and the Netherlands inspired great artists, formed foundations of contemporary government and commerce, survived centuries of tumultuous times and, of course, cultivated awe-inspiring floral landscapes. The Burtons will share their travel adventures from Brussels, the heart of the European Union, to Amsterdam, the "Venice of the North." Enjoy photographs of centuries-old cities that line the canals in the Netherlands and learn about the arts, foods, industries, and flowers of these two countries.

Bob Burton is Professor Emeritus of Communications at Oakton Community College (Des Plaines) where he produced the college’s TV programs for 31 years. Cora Burton worked for 25 years as the administrative assistant to the director of a local social service agency.
