Human Rights Film 'Alice's Ordinary People' September 24

Celebrate National Voter Registration Day with civil rights and voter registration activist Alice Tregay along with filmmaker Craig Dudnick at a special screening of Alice's Ordinary People.

Celebrate National Voter Registration Day with civil rights and voter registration activist Alice Tregay on Monday, September 24 at Oak Park Public Library, 834 Lake Street. Filmmaker Craig Dudnick and Alice Tregay will introduce a screening of the documentary film Alice’s Ordinary People at 7 pm. Voter registrars will be available to register voters before the screening, beginning at 6:30 pm. This free event is presented in collaboration with the League of Women Voters of Oak Park and River Forest.

Alice Tregay, a Chicago area woman, marched with Dr. Martin Luther King in 1966 and refused to stand still in the face of injustice. At the September 24 screening of film Alice’s Ordinary People, Evanston filmmaker Craig Dudnick and Alice Tregay will lead a discussion of the film and how citizens can learn about the continuing struggle for human rights and dignity. Those with first-hand accounts of Dr. Martin Luther King or other civil rights leaders will be encouraged to share.

To register to vote at this event, bring two forms of ID with you. You do not need a photo ID, but you do need one form of ID that shows your current address. More information about registering to vote at http://oppl.org/about/services/voter-registration.

Alice’s Ordinary People is a production of Shorefront, a non-profit organization created by Dino Robinson which preserves and educates people about Black history on Chicago’s suburban North Shore.

Craig Dudnick is a 1980 graduate of Northwestern University, who founded Imagine Video Productions in 1983. More recently he directed Evanston’s Living History, the story of a remarkable generation’s struggle to end racial discrimination in Evanston and Alice’s Ordinary People, the story of ordinary people who effected extraordinary change for human rights.
