West Suburban Hospital Nurse Ann Marie O'Shea, 73

Visitation and funeral Mass set for Friday and Saturday.


Ann Marie O’Shea, the youngest of six daughters born to Kathleen and John O’Shea, passed away on May 27.  She was 73.

Ms. O'Shea was the youngest of six daughters born to Kathleen & John O'Shea. She was from Ardacluggan, West Cork, Ireland. 

In 1958 she graduated from the technical school in Castletownbere. She departed for America June 1960, the same year that America elected its first Irish Catholic president.

Shortly after arriving in the states, Ms. O'Shea was employed as a certified nurse’s assistant  at Oak Park Hospital, where she met and married her husband in 1964. Over the next 40 years, Ann made her home in Oak Park and River Forest.

She received her License for Practical Nursing degree from Triton Jr. College, in December of 1971. Shortly after graduation she was employed at West Suburban Hospital as a charge nurse on 5 West and later in the kidney dialysis outpatient facility.

Ms. O’Shea was born January 10, 1941. She is preceded in death by her parents and  sister Theresa Greenhalgh. She is survived by her daughter Kathleen (John) Mullaghy and her sisters, Mary Cronin, Mildred Flynn, Katherine Cronin and Bridie Mahoney.

She was blessed with a healthy and happy life and enjoyed a lifetime of learning and many hobbies including genealogy, dancing, singing, cooking and travel.

Visitation will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 30, at Donnellan Family Funeral Services, 10045 Skokie Boulevard, Skokie.

A funeral Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, May 31, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 1775 Grove Street at Church Street, in Glenview.

Entombment will be at All Saints Cemetery and Mausoleum, 700 N. River Road, Des Plaines.

In lieu of flowers, her family asks that donations be made in her memory to Heartland Hospice Services, 2100 Sanders Road, Suite 100, Northbrook, IL 60062.
