Hey Mom and Dad, What Worries You Most About Your Children's Future?

Parents, Patch wants to hear from you on the questions that get families talking.

Welcome to "Hey Mom and Dad"—a weekly feature in which we ask our Facebook fans to share their views on parenting. Every week, we get the conversation started by taking a look back at a question we asked parents the week before on Patch Facebook pages from around the area.

That brings us to this week's question:

When it comes to your kids growing up, what worries you the most about their future?

Take a look at what people had to say and join the conversation in the comments section.

Leah Papadopoulos: When I was raising my kids I had to worry about predators and serial killers abducting them from my front yard I'm sure it's still the same and worse! — Darien Patch Facebook

Catherine Dopak Stukel: What worries me most? When the helicopter parents' and no child left behind - is done with this generation -- my child will have to deal with the little creeps who were coddled and given one too many trophies for participating. That is all.... — Lemont Patch Facebook

Jeffrey Rampage Finn: The country going into the toilet leading to mass chaos and riots .Martial law instituted and FEMA taking over.Other than that. Not much else. — Lemont Patch Facebook

Leah Stanger: Safety — Burr Ridge Patch Facebook

Karen Sherman Bushy: Please tell me what good does it do to worry? Really. If you have a concern about an area of their life that 'needs some work', then take the time you have to teach them? Be the parent! Set tough but reasonable rules, MAKE SURE they understand what the rules are AND WHY THEY ARE IMPORTANT, and then follow through. Take time to have fun with your kids, and let them know that they are not alone. They are an important, necessary part of the family. We told our kids: "Our Family: Forever, for always, no matter what!" and they loved that. — Downers Grove Patch Facebook

So what's your take? Tell us in the comments.

I worry about today's children and their unborn children trying to pay back our government's current spending spree. The future quality of life for today's children will be bleek if we don't put on the brakes now. We will be like Greece within 25 years.

I worry about kids who today are being labeled as terrorists because they talked about playing with their hello kitty bubble gun on a school bus. I worry that today's kids will grow up and not be able to get a job to support themselves after supporting the government waste. I worry that our children will be regulated to death. I think today's kids will be left with a country that doesn't allow for creative juices to flow or individualism to flourish. It will be a country that will not allow ANYONE to be offended by anything or to not require its citizens to be independent or responsible for their own futures. The list could go on but I will spare you. I think I got my point across.
