Man Robbed on CTA, Break-in Attempts on Oak Park Avenue: Police Blotter

Oak Park police reports, July 26-29, include a robbery on the CTA, burglaries and break-in attempts, and a theft at a party in Oak Park.

MONDAY, JULY 29

Man Arrested for Stealing 10 Boxes of 5-Hour Energy

Police charged Edward West, 45, of Chicago with felony retail theft and trespassing after he stole 10 boxes of 5-Hour Energy drinks from CVS, 345 Madison St., around 9 a.m. He was processed and held on bond.

Car Stolen on Wesley

Someone stole a silver 2000 Honda Civic from the 300 block of Wesley Avenue between 11:30 p.m. July 28 and about 8:15 a.m. July 29. The total estimated loss is $5,000, police said. 

Car Damage

Someone damaged a door handle of a car in the 1000 block of Mapleton between 11:45 p.m. July 28 and 6:30 a.m. July 29. 

Bike Stolen

Someone stole a $250 bike locked to a parking meter in the 1100 block of West Lake Street between 8 and 9:45 a.m. 

Battery Arrest

Police charged Kimberly Fuller, 36, of the 1400 block of Austin Boulevard in Oak Park with battery and property damage at 7 p.m. at her home. She was processed and released on bond. 

Spare Tire Stolen

Someone stole a spare tire from a Toyota Rav4 in the 1000 block of Randolph Street between 9:20 and 10 p.m. The total estimated loss is $250, police said. Someone also tried to take the spare tire form a Honda CRV around the same time, at the same location, without success. 

Cars Ransacked

  • Someone ransacked the glove box of an unlocked car in the 1100 block of North Austin Boulevard between 8:30 p.m. July 28 and 9 a.m. July 29.
  • Someone ransacked the inside of an unlocked car in the 1100 block of Fair Oaks Avenue between 7:30 p.m. July 28 and 6:45 a.m. July 29. 

Suspended License Arrest

Police charged Kinte Jones, 36, of the 900 block of North Boulevard in Oak Park with driving on a suspended license and two warrants for driving on a suspended license around 1:15 p.m. in the 1000 block of Washington Boulevard. He was processed and released on bond, police said. 

Garage Door Damaged

Someone used a pry tool to damage a garage door in the 1200 block of North Elmwood Avenue between 10 p.m. July 28 and 10 a.m. July 29. The estimated cost of damage is $100, police said. 

SUNDAY, JULY 28

Bike Stolen

Someone stole a men's bike and a bike lock from an unlocked garage in the 1200 block of Fair Oaks Avenue between 9 p.m. July 27 and 9 a.m. July 28. The total estimated loss is $1,140, police said. 

Passport Detector Stolen

Someone broke the front passenger window of a car in the 400 block of South Kenilworth Avenue between 6 p.m. July 27 and 9 a.m. July 28 and stole a passport radar detector. The total estimated loss is $800, police said. 

Coins Stolen From Car

Someone stole $3 in coins from an unlocked car in the 1000 block of Hayes Avenue around 5:30 p.m. A witness told police they saw a man in a white shirt and light jeans get out of the car and run down the alley, police said. The total estimated loss is $3.

Break-in Attempts on Oak Park Avenue

  • Someone used a pry tool to try to break into a home in the 700 block of North Oak Park Avenue between 1 and 4 p.m. Nothing was stolen, police said. 
  • Someone used a pry tool to break a window of a home in the 1100 block of North Oak Park Avenue, then reached inside and pushed the inner pane and wood frame into the living room, but was not able to get inside. The attempt occurred sometime between 6:30 and 8 p.m., police said. 
SATURDAY, JULY 27

Man Robbed by Touchy Train Passenger

An Oak Park resident was robbed on the train near Austin by a man in his 50s around midnight. Police said the offender approached the man and started acting friendly, patting the man on the arms and chest. When he left the train, he realized his phone was missing from his coat pocket, police said. The total estimated loss is $550. 

2 TVs Stolen in Burglary

Someone pried open the front door of a home in the 0-100 block of Le Moyne Avenue between 10 a.m. July 26 and 2:25 a.m. July 27 and stole two flat screen TVs from the master bedroom. The total estimated loss is $1,200, police said. 

Window Shattered

Someone broke the front window of a business in the 900 block of Garfield Street between 6 p.m. July 26 and 9 a.m. July 27. The estimated damage cost is $500, police said. 

$350 Saw Stolen

Someone stole a $350 saw from a storage area in the 300 block of North Elmwood Avenue between 5 p.m. July 2 and 10 a.m. July 27. The total estimated loss is $350, police said. 

Purse Stolen From Shopping Cart

Someone stole a black Vera Bradley purse containing credit cards, IDs and an iPhone from an unattended shopping cart at a store in the 500 block of South Ridgeland Avenue around noon. The total estimated loss is $640, police said. 

$15 in Change, Knife Stolen

Someone stole $15 in change and a Gerber knife from an unlocked car in the 400 block of North Scoville Avenue between 7:10 and 8:50 p.m. The total estimated loss is $50, police said. 

FRIDAY, JULY 26

Phone Stolen at Party

Someone stole a Samsung Galaxy cell phone from a kitchen counter during a party in the 300 block of North Maple Avenue between 10 and 10:30 p.m. The total estimated loss is $460, police said. 

48 Village Parking Signs Pried From Wall

Someone pried 48 numbered parking signs off a concrete wall at Village Hall, 123 Madison St. between 6 p.m. July 25 and 8 a.m. July 26. The estimated cost of damage is $3,312, police said. 

DUI

Police charged John Magrowski, 50, of Chicago with DUI after he hit a parked car in the 200 block of Home Avenue around 10 p.m. He was released on bond.
