After Chase, Chicago Woman Charged with Retail Theft

The 51-year-old led police on high-speed romp before arrest.

A Chicago woman was charged with felony retail theft and several other offenses after she tried to steal merchandise from Dominick’s Finer Foods in River Forest, nearly ran down the store manager in the parking lot and led officers on a high-speed chase to the border of Oak Park and Chicago, police said.

The initial incident took place around 5:15 p.m. Sept. 29 at , 7501 W. North Ave.

The grocery store's manager caught Terrylin Ware, 51, trying to steal nearly $150 worth of what police called "bath items," followed Ware to the store's parking lot, then tried to block her from taking off in a Ford Explorer, according to police reports.

But Ware tried to run the store manager over, then drove over the parkway onto North Avenue. Tailed by police, she sped east until reaching Austin Boulevard, where officers pinned the SUV in and forcibly removed her from it.

In addition to the retail theft charge, Ware was also charged with aggravated fleeing and eluding police, resisting arrest, assault, reckless driving and other driving offenses.
