Armed Robbery, Spat In West Sub Maternity Ward

Mother has daughter arrested, thefts and more.

The following items are taken from the  daily summary reports for May 28-June 2. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Disorderly Conduct: Sheri Knepple, 20, of Broadview was charged with disorderly conduct June 2 when police attempted to get her to stop making a disturbance in the 100 block of South Scoville Avenue, police said.  Police arrived on the scene around 4 a.m. after several calls that someone was screaming. The person with Knepple, Juan Gonzalez, 25, of Cicero was arrested on two outstanding warrants from Cicero for battery and driving on a suspended license.

Disorderly Conduct:  Lawrence Hanks, 53, of Chicago, was charged on June 2 with disorderly conduct and criminal trespass, police said. Hanks was apprehended after police received a call from employees of the 7-11, 240 Chicago Ave., that he had been told repeatedly not to return because he was creating a disturbance.  He also was identified by store employees as the person who started a fire in a trash can outside of the store on May 30.

 Burglary Arrest: Lamar D. Jackson, 18, of Chicago, was charged with burglary on June 2 when he was found carrying a bag of miscellaneous items taken from a 2005 Chevrolet can parked at the rear of the 1100 block of Clinton Avenue, police said. Police said they saw Jackson trying to open doors of vehicles and placed him under surveillance. Officers apprehended him at the CTA Blue Line stop at South Oak Park Avenue, police said.

Burglary to Auto: The interior of a 2005 Nissan Altima parked in the 200 block of South Harvey Avenue was ransacked sometime between June 1 and June 2; nothing was taken. Estimated damage was $250.

Burglary to Auto: A GPS unit was taken sometime between June 1 and June 2 from an unlocked 2007 GMC Sierra parked in the rear of a home in the 800 block of Hayes Avenue. Estimated loss was $175.

Auto Theft: A 1994 Honda Civic parked in the 6800 block of North Avenue was taken sometime between May 23 and June 2. Estimated loss was $2,000.

Criminal Damage:  A 2007 Dodge Charger parked in the 200 block of South East Avenue on June 2 was found with its tires slashed, a side mirror broken and a side keyed. Estimated damage was $1,550.

Criminal Trespass Arrest: A 17-year-old from Chicago was charged with criminal trespass on June 2 after being identified by an eyewitness as the girl who entered and removed the keys from a 2007 Dodge Charger, police said. The vehicle was parked in the 300 block of South East Avenue.

 Burglary to Auto: The interior and glove box of a 2004 Honda Odyssey were ransacked sometime between June 1 and June 2 but nothing was taken. The vehicle was parked in the rear of a home in the 900 block of North Lombard Avenue.

Armed Robbery: A man was uninjured when he held up at gunpoint during the evening hours of June 2. Police said two men approached the victim from the rear while he walking eastbound in the 700 block of Madison Street around 8 p.m. One man, displaying a semi-automatic handgun, told the victim to give him what he had and the second man went through his pockets and took $40. Both took off eastbound on Madison in a Chevrolet Impala.

 Burglary to Garage:  A car radio was stolen sometime between June 1 and June 2 from an unlocked Chevrolet Caprice parked on the apron of the garage of a home in the 1100 block of South Maple Avenue. During the incident a 2009 Chevrolet Impala parked in the garage was ransacked; nothing was taken. Estimated loss was $200.

Vehicle Theft: An unlocked 2007 Chevrolet van parked in the 1100 block of Rossell Avenue was stolen on June 1. The keys were inside the vehicle. The van was later recovered in Chicago. There were no arrests. 

Theft: A bicycle parked in the rear yard of a home in the 200 block of South Harvey Avenue was taken sometime between May 25 and June 1. Estimated loss was $800.

Stolen Vehicle Arrest: A 16-year-old from Chicago was expected to appear in Cook County Juvenile Court on June 2 on charges of unlawful possession of a stolen vehicle, police said.            

Burglary from Auto: A briefcase containing a checkbook, miscellaneous papers and a computer security token was stolen on June 1 from an unlocked 2004 Honda mini-van parked in the 400 block of Fillmore Street. The loss was estimated at $10.

Warrant Arrest: Rodney Stanton, 46, of Chicago was arrested on June 1 on a 23-year-old outstanding warrant out of Oak Park police for driving on a suspended license, police said. In investigating a call of a disturbance involving Stanton at a business in the 6300 block of West North Avenue, police found he had failed to appear in court for that incident in 1988.

Battery Arrest: A 17-year-old from Chicago was charged with battery and disorderly conduct on June 1 after a verbal argument inside the maternity ward at West Suburban Hospital, 00 block of Erie Court, became violent, police said. Both the juvenile and the victim, a 22-year-old from Chicago who he struck in the face, were visiting the same patient, police added. The juvenile was turned over the custody of a guardian.

Residential Burglary: A computer, a camera, lap desk and $200 were stolen on June 1 from a home in the 700 block of Hayes Avenue. Entry was gained by forcing open the basement door. Estimated loss was $1,000.

Burglary from Auto: A briefcase, containing a checkbook, miscellaneous papers and a computer security token, was taken June 1 from an unlocked 2004 Honda mini-van parked in the 400 block of Fillmore Street. Estimated loss was $10.

Drug Charge: Pianche A. Guidry-Watkins, 28, of Oak Park, was charged on June 1 with driving while under the influence of drugs after a traffic stop in the 800 block of Van Buren Street, police said.     

Retail Theft Arrest: Antron D. Drummond, 40, of Chicago, was charged with felony retail theft on May 31 after he tried to take laundry detergent and air freshener from , 6412 Roosevelt Rd., police said.

Theft: An iPhone and $30 were taken May 31 from a locked locker at , 201 N. Scoville Ave. Estimated loss is $630.

Theft: An iPhone was taken on May 31 from the lap of a woman who was napping in her car parked in the 1200 block of North Taylor Avenue. The car’s windows were rolled down at the time. Estimated loss was $500.                       

Criminal Trespass Arrest: Sokita D. Taylor, 19, of Chicago, was charged on May 31 with criminal trespass to a vehicle for taking her mother’s 2009 Cadillac STS without her permission, police said.  Police stopped Taylor in the 900 block of South East Avenue after she ran a red light at Oak Park Avenue and Harrison Street, ran the plate and found the car was wanted out of Chicago. While interviewing Taylor, the girl’s mother approached officers at the scene and identified the vehicle as hers. She advised officers that she wanted to file a complaint against her daughter, police said.  

Burglary: A bicycle, edger, leaf blower, six metal chairs, miscellaneous garden tools and two grass cutters were taken sometime between May 30 and May 31 from the open garage of a home in the 1100 block of South Cuyler Avenue. Estimated loss was $1,010.

Criminal Damage: The front windshields of a 2007 Mercedes Benz and a 2001 Buick Century parked in the 500 block of Pleasant Street were broken on May 29. Estimated damage was $500.

Criminal Trespass Arrest: James Kendall, 23, of Calumet City was charged on May 28 with criminal trespass to vehicle, driving on a suspended license and unlawful use of a weapon, police said. According to police, officers saw a suspicious vehicle  in the 00 block of Harrison Street, ran the plates and found that the person behind the wheel was driving a 2003 Toyota Camry stolen out of Chicago on April 20.  Police placed Kendall under surveillance and when he finished pumping gas at a station at the intersection of Austin Boulevard and Harrison Street police apprehended him. Police found brass knuckles in his pocket during a custodial search.
