Backpack (Almost) Snatched from Oak Park Student

Man followed boy, 12, then tried to steal his backpack.

At approximately 3:45 pm on Monday, October 3, a 12-year-old elementary school student nearly had his backpack snatched from his back as he walked home from school.

The incident happened on the 1100 block of South East Avenue. A man walked behind the student south on East Avenue for at least two blocks before getting close enough to reach out and grab the backpack. The student felt his backpack being pulled and began to run, freeing his backpack from the man’s grasp.

The man did not chase the student, no words were exchanged and no suspect vehicle was observed. Police have increase patrols in the area.

The offender is described as a bald, white, Hispanic male in his 30s; 5’11” tall with a medium build. He was last seen wearing sunglasses, a red hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans. Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to call Oak Park Police at 708.386.3800
