Charges Filed in River Forest Hit and Run

Search for motorist leads to Hillside condo.

A Hillside man has been identified as the driver of a car that clipped a River Forest bicyclist then sped away.

Ronnie Williams, 51, was arrested at his condominium on Monday after investigators tracked down a car authorities said was used in a hit-and-run accident that took place at Central and Lathrop Avenues on Friday.

Witnesses told police the 62-year-old cyclist was traveling east on Central Avenue through the intersection when he was struck by a tan Toyota Camry. The impact sent the cyclist to the pavement and knocked off the sedan's driver's side mirror, police said.

"The Toyota ultimately never stopped and continued south on Lathrop from the crash scene and was gone before police arrived," Weiss said in a statement.

The cyclist, an Oak Park resident, was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was treated with minor injuries and later released.

River Forest investigators traced the damaged car to a parking lot outside a residential complex in the 600 block of Wolf Road in Hillside.

On Monday, Williams was charged with leaving the scene of an accident, failure to give aid or information and failure to yield. He is scheduled to appear at the Maybrook courthouse on April 15.
