Chicago Police Warn of Green Line Robberies

Community alert issued after rash of robberies on West Side.

Police in Chicago have issued a community alert after a series of robberies to passengers on the CTA Green Line and on train platforms near the Austin stop.

According to the Chicago Tribune, investigators haven't said how many robberies are connected to the pattern of recent incidents, but NBC 5's Anthony Ponce reports "approximately 24 recent CTA Green Line robberies have poured into the Chicago Police Department since November 2nd. The attacks are widespread, making it difficult for police to pinpoint a particular location."

Media reports indicate the victims are approached while riding, exiting or walking home from the Green Line or waiting at a bus stop. According to the alert, the offenders include up to four males who punch their victims or display a handgun and demand belongings like purses, wallets, cash and cell phones.
