A Cicero police officer was charged Thursday with criminally transmitting HIV to a man he went to the movies with in July 2012, the Cook County Sheriff said.
John Savage, 38, of La Grange Park, engaged in sexual activities with a 24-year-old man at Savage’s home after their date, according to the sheriff’s release. He failed to tell the man he was HIV positive before the encounter, the sheriff said.
The victim later asked if Savage was HIV positive, and when Savage said yes, the man reported the incident to La Grange police.
Savage was arrested Wednesday at the La Grange Park Police Department and charged with one count of criminally transmitting HIV after La Grange Police conducted an investigation in conjunction with the sheriff’s office.
He was released on an I-Bond and is scheduled to appear March 21 at the Maywood Courthouse.
