500 Pounds of Copper Wire Stolen and More: Oak Park Police Blotter

Oak Park police reports, Nov. 28-Dec. 2

SUNDAY, DEC. 2

Theft Arrest

Larry L. Mitchell, 58, of the 1400 block of west Greenleaf in Chicago, was arrested at 4:25 p.m. in the 1100 block of North Boulevard and charged with theft. Mitchell was issued a court date in January and held for bond hearings.

Burglary Reported

A resident of the 300 block of South Maple reported to police that their vehicle was burglarized between 2 a.m. and 1 p.m. Two bags containing clothing were stolen from the trunk of the vehicle for an estimated loss of $351.

Domestic Battery Arrest

Andrae D. Zollicoffer, 35, of the 300 block of north Marion was arrested at 2:25 p.m. in Oak Park and charged with domestic battery. Zollicoffer was issued a court date in December and held for bond hearings.

SATURDAY, DEC. 1

Burglary Reported

A resident of the 1000 block of South Home reported that their garage was entered and their vehicle burglarized between 2 and 7 a.m. An Apple laptop, an iPad, a Garmin GPS unit, a pair of Maui glasses and headphones were stolen. The estimated loss was $2900.

FRIDAY, NOV. 30

Wallet theft

An Arizona resident reported someone stole their wallet containing cash, credit cards and IDs while they were in the 100 block of north Oak Park Avenue at about 8:30 p.m. The loss was estimated at $60. 

Damage to Home, Car Reported in Separate Incidents

A house in the 900 block of Home was reported damaged when someone broke two panes of glass on the house using a piece of concrete around 10:55 p.m. for an estimated loss of $400.

A car was reported damaged by unknown means after the victim found the front passenger door dented and the windshield broken while it was parked in the 400 block of south Taylor between 4 p.m. Nov. 30 and 9 a.m. Dec. 1. The estimated loss was not available.

Retail Theft Reported

A business in the 400 block of North Harlem reported that a man entered the store and removed two gray fleece jackets at about 2:30 p.m. The man was last seen running south from the parking lot. The loss was estimated at $50.

THURSDAY, NOV. 29

Man Charged With Giving False Information

Richard D. Tharpe, 20, of the 1500 block of West Simpson in Evanston, was arrested and charged with obstruction of identification at he was stopped in the 100 block of South Lombard at about 11 p.m. Police said Tharpe was stopped after they received a report of a suspicious person and then he gave several false names and addresses to police. He was held in lieu of bond.

Packages Stolen

Police said a man described as 30, bald and wearing a gray shirt and blue jeans was seen removing a package delivered by UPS from a resident's home in the 900 block of Belleforte at about 3 p.m. The man then got into a sliver Mercury four-door sedan and then drove away. The loss was estimated at $66.

Police said two individuals—described as a 16-year-old boy and girl—were seen removing a package from a home in the 800 block of South Grove at about 1:30 p.m. The two removed two packages delivered by UPS from the victim's front porch and then fled on foot. The loss was estimated at $408.

Home Burglarized

A home in the 200 block of South Taylor was reported burglarized after the owners found that someone had used a brick to break a rear window to enter the home and steal a laptop computer between 7:40 a.m. and 3:40 p.m. The estimated loss was $2,000.

Car Stolen

Someone stole beige 2002 Audi A6 Quatro from a resident's garage by unknown means in the 1100 block of South Humphrey between 8:30 p.m. Nov. 28 and 7 a.m. Nov. 29. The estimated loss was $3,360.

WEDNESDAY, NOV. 28

Man Charged With Stealing Downspouts

Joseph Jason Smith, 35, of the 5700 block of West Erie in Chicago, was arrested and charged with theft at about 7:42 p.m. in the 5700 block of West Chicago Avenue in connection with stealing aluminum downspouts from an Oak Park home. Smith was held for bond hearings.

Patio Furniture Stolen

A resident of the 400 block of Wisconsin reported that three pieces of iron outdoor patio furniture was stolen from their porch between 8:30 and 11:30 a.m. The loss was estimated at $210.

Man Arrested with Hypodermic Syringe

Dangelo C. Smith, 18, of the 3300 block of West 19th Street in Chicago, was arrested and charged with possession of hypodermic syringes without a prescription in the 500 block of Lake Street at 4 p.m. Smith was later released on bond and issued a court date in December.

Theft Reported at AT&T Switchboard Room

AT&T, in the 700 block of Lake Street, reported that someone entered their switchboard room via key card between 9 a.m. and 9:20 p.m. and removed about 500 pounds of copper wire. The loss was estimated at $1,500.
