DUI, Aggravated Assault, Thefts: Police Blotter

Oak Park police reports from June 28-30 include the theft of a Blackhawks flag, DUI arrests and more.

SUNDAY, JUNE 30

Aggravated Assault

Police charged Michael Shrader, 43, of the 1000 block of North Taylor Avenue in Oak Park with aggravated assault. He was arrested at 3:50 p.m. in the 100 block of Madison Street, given a July 3 court date and held for bond hearings, police said. 

DUI

  • Police charged Gonzalo Vaquero-Garcia, 33, of Berwyn with driving under the influence of alcohol around 6:30 a.m. in the 1000 block of Augusta Avenue. He was processed and released after posting bond, police said. 
  • Police charged Osvaldo Torres, 25, of Chicago with driving under the influence of alcohol around 5 a.m. in the 500 block of South Ridgeland Avenue. He was processed and released after posting bond, police said.

Minor Charged With Trespassing

Police charged a minor from Chicago with trespassing to a vehicle in the 100 block of Augusta Avenue around 7:30 a.m. He was processed and turned over to his parents, police said. 

Garbage Tipper

Someone knocked over a garbage can in the 100 block of Chicago Avenue around 9:25 a.m. 

Car Scratched

Someone scratched the siding of a Dodge Caravan in the 500 block of South Kenilworth Avenue between 12:30 p.m. June 28 and 12:30 p.m. June 30. The estimated cost of the damage is $500, police said. 

Car Break-ins

  • Someone went through an open window of a 2003 Pontiac in the 100 block of Madison Street and stole the car's battery between 7:25 p.m. June 29 and 11 a.m. June 30. The total estimated loss is $70, police said. 
  • Someone ransacked the inside of an unlocked car in the 600 block of Carpenter Street between 2 and 4 p.m. Nothing was reported stolen, police said. 
  • Someone stole headphones from an unlocked car and ransacked another car in an unlocked garage the 1200 block of Forest Avenue between 2:30 and 5:15 p.m. The total estimated loss is $25, police said. 
SATURDAY, JUNE 29

Woman Arrested for Stealing Mail

Police charged Madelin DeJesus, 27, of the 300 block of Chicago Avenue in Oak Park with theft after she stole someone else's mail packages from her front porch. She was released on bond, police said. 

Trespassing Arrest

Police charged William Johnson, 32, of Joliet with trespassing a home in the 100 block of South Harvey Avenue around 9 a.m. He was held for bond court, police said. 

Toys Stolen From Car

Someone stole about $100 in children's toys from an unlocked car in the 500 block of South Lombard Avenue between 10:30 p.m. June 28 and 6:30 a.m. June 29. 

Car Stereo Stolen

Someone stole a $300 car stereo from a Ford Focus parked in the 1000 block of North Oak Park Avenue between 11 p.m. June 28 and 8:20 a.m. June 29.

Break-ins on Kenilworth Avenue

Someone stole a GPS unit from an unlocked car in the 700 block of South Kenilworth between 5 p.m. and 9 a.m. The total estimated loss is $200, police said. 

A break-in to an unlocked car was also reported in the 700 block of South Kenilworth between 7 p.m. June 28 and 10 a.m. June 29, but nothing was reported stolen, police said.

Screen Stolen

Someone stole a window screen, worth about $100, from a home in the 700 block of Carpenter Street between 4 p.m. June 23 and 5:30 p.m. June 29. 

Car Break-in

Someone ransacked the inside of an unlocked car in the 700 block of Clinton Avenue between 11:30 p.m. June 28 and 7:30 a.m. June 29. Nothing was reported stolen, police said. 

FRIDAY, JUNE 28

Blackhawks Flag Snatched

Someone stole a Blackhawks flag and pole from a front porch in the 200 block of South Cuyler Avenue between 8 p.m. June 27 and 2:15 p.m. June 28. The total estimated loss is $120, police said. 

Burglary

Someone used a pry tool to break into a home in the 1000 block of North Marion Street between 10:30 a.m. and noon and stole about $2,210 in cash, diamond rings and earrings, a women's watch and a necklace, police said. 

Bike Theft

Someone stole a $335 bike from a yard in the 500 block of Wesley Avenue between 1 p.m. June 27 and 2:50 p.m. June 28.
