Forest Park Police Probe Armed Robbery at Currency Exchange

Forest Park police investigate an armed robbery reported June 1 at the Currency Exchange on Roosevelt Road.

Police are investigating an armed robbery reported around 3:40 a.m. Saturday, June 1 at the Currency Exchange at 7207 Roosevelt Rd. in Forest Park.

A store employee told police while sitting at her register, she heard a loud smashing noise coming from the back of the building and saw someone smashing the window inside the rear vestibule area with a sledgehammer, police said.

She told police she hit all panic alarm buttons and called 911. When the call didn't go through, she grabbed her cell phone and ran toward the bathroom and asked the man trying to get in, "What do you want?" as she ran past the window.

The man replied, "Money, money, money," police said. The employee then locked herself in the bathroom and called 911.

The employee described the burglar as a man in all black clothes with a hood covering his face, police said.
