Fruit, Fists and Force Used in Robbery of 12-Year-Old Boy

Pair charged in nighttime attack; police searching for third suspect.

Two Chicago teens have been charged after attacking and robbing a 12-year-old boy near .

According to police, three juveniles approached the boy, who'd been standing in the 600 block of Lake Street around 9 p.m. on Aug. 29. The boy had been carrying a basketball, and someone from the trio started throwing fruit at him.

One of the attackers tried to punch the boy, then took his eyeglasses and swiped away his basketball.

Officers responded to the call and saw two juveniles, one 15 and the other 16, in the area of Lake and Harvey Avenue who matched the description given by the victim, and police said he later identified them.

Both were charged with aggravated battery and mob action; the 15-year-old also was charged with robbery and obstructing identification. A third person is also sought, police said.
