Girl Robbed on Ridgeland, Multiple Burglaries: Police Blotter

Oak Park Girl Robbed on Ridgeland

Three Chicago residents face robbery and mob action charges after they robbed an Oak Park girl on Ridgeland Avenue.

The girl was walking with friends in the 0-100 block of North Ridgeland Avene around 3:30 p.m. when she noticed three or four people following them, police said.

Denise McDowell, 18, of Chicago, grabbed the girl's iPhone while Brian Conner, 20, of Chicago, and Edmen Williams, 23, of Chicago repeatedly told the girl to, "let it go," police said.

The offenders ran toward the Ridgeland CTA station, where they were arrested. They were each processed on robbery and mob action charges, police said.

Teen, Juveniles Charged With Trespassing

Police charged Justin Figueroa 18, of Chicago and two Chicago juveniles with trespassing a vehicle about 10:20 p.m. in the 500 block of North Oak Park Avenue. One of the juveniles was also charged with possession of a stolen vehicle and held for juvenile court. Figueroa was released on bond. The second juvenile was released.

Car Damaged

Someone broke the rear hatch window of a Jeep Liberty in the 2300 block of North Oak Park Avenue between 8:45 a.m. and 3:15 p.m. The estimated cost of damage is $200, police said.

$3,773 in Electronics Stolen in Burglary

Someone broke into a home in the 100 block of North Humphrey Avenue between about 1 and 3:30 p.m. and stole a 47-inch TV, two 40-inch TVs, a Mac laptop, an iPad and cash. Police said the burglar cut the screen door of the home, then broke a window to unlock the door. The total estimated loss is $3,773, police said.

Kids Clothes Stolen

Someone stole $73 in Old Navy kids clothes from a UPS package on a pitch in the 1100 block of Wesley Avenue between 2 and 4 p.m.

Cell Phone Stolen

Someone stole a woman's Samsung Galaxy cell phone from a counter while she was making a purchase just after 6 p.m. The total estimated loss is $599, police said.

Kids Clothes Stolen

Someone stole a pair of boys' yellow Converse shoes and five Fila boys' shirts from a package in the 1100 block of Wesley Avenue between about 1 and 9 p.m. The total estimated loss is $102, police said.

Parking Box Damaged

Someone damaged a parking payment box in the 1100 block of West Lake Street between 2:30 p.m. Aug. 22 and 7:25 a.m. Aug. 23. The total estimated loss is $200, police said. 

Bike Stolen From Garage

Someone broke into a garage in the 200 block of South Scoville Avenue through a partially-open window and stole a girl's bike between 9 a.m. Aug. 20 and 10:30 a.m. Aug. 23. The total estimated loss is $150, police said.

Door Handle Damage

Someone broke off the driver's side door handle of a 1999 Honda parked in the 800 block of South Euclid Avenue between 10:30 p.m. Aug. 22 and 6:30 a.m. Aug. 23. The total estimated loss is $200, police said.

Bike Stolen

Someone stole a mountain bike from a backyard in the 900 block of Linden Avenue between 10:30 a.m. Aug. 22 and 8:15 a.m. Aug. 23. The total estimated loss is $150, police said.

THURSDAY, AUGUST 22

Aggravated Assault

Police arrested Travis Johnson, 34, of Chicago, for aggravated assault about 6 p.m. in the 700 block of North Ridgeland Avenue. He was given a Sept. 16 court date and held on bond.

$7,000 Bike Stolen

Someone stole a $7,000 bike from an unlocked garage in the 100 block of South Grove Avenue between 4 p.m. Aug. 21 and 5:30 a.m. Aug. 22.


$6,900 in Personal Items Taken in Burglary

Someone stole a Kindle Fire, a Louis Vuitton handbag, a piggy bank, cash and miscellaneous jewelry from an apartment in the 600 block of South Boulevard between 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. The total estimated loss is $6,900, police said. 

Watch, Computer Stolen in Burglary

Someone stole a women's gold watch, a computer tablet and $300 from a home in the 600 block of South Boulevard between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. The total estimated loss is $3,100, police said.

Home Ransacked on Jackson

Someone removed a window screen and damaged a lock to break into a home in the 500 block of Jackson Boulevard between 12:30 and 2 p.m. The burglar ransacked the home and stole a black vinyl bag. No loss reported.

Garden Equipment Stolen

Someone broke a garage door handle in the 500 block of North Euclid Avenue between 4 p.m. Aug. 18 and 5:40 p.m. Aug. 22 and stole a garden hose and a garden tote that contained tools. The total estimated loss is $150, police said.
