Hate Crime: Spray Painter Attacks Resident's Sexual Orientation in Oak Park

Oak Park police reported a hate crime that occurred last week when someone spray-painted the victim's driveway and car.

Oak Park police reported a hate crime that occurred in the 300 block of Wesley last week. 

The offender used black spray paint to write "derogatory comments" on the victim's driveway and car. The comments referred to one of the resident's sexual orientation. 

Police said the crime happened between 11 p.m. May 8 and 6 a.m. May 9.

Phone Harassment

Lair Scott, 53, of the 100 block of S. Maple in Oak Park, was charged with telephone harassment of a resident in the 900 block of Wesley.

THURSDAY, MAY 9

Bike Stolen

A 26-inch silver and blue men's Schwinn mountain bike was stolen in the 800 block of S. Euclid between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. The offender cut the bike lock. The estimated loss is $225.   

Book Bag Stolen

Someone's black book bag, which contained school books and a passport, was stolen while unattended in the 800 block of Lake Street. The estimated loss is $140. 

Wallet Taken in Robbery

An Oak Park resident was robbed by two men at about 6 p.m. in the 800 block of S. Oak Park Avenue. One man approached the resident and said, "Give me your wallet." The loss was $590. Both men are described as black, between 30 and 40 and with medium build. One man is bald and was wearing a black hooded sweathshirt and jeans, and carrying a black backpack. The second man was wearing dark clothing. 

Motorcycle Stolen

A blue and white 2011 Suzuki GSXR750 motorcycle was stolen from a parking lot in the 500 block of S. Wisconsin between 7 p.m. May 7 and 1 p.m. May 9. The estimated loss is $11,000.  

Car Burglary

Someone entered an unlocked car in the 700 block of S. Lyman and stolen $5 in coins, 20 CDs, a fire extinguisher and a tool box. The estimated loss is $250.

Sexual Abuse Arrest

A 16-year-old Hillside juvenile was charged with criminal sexual abuse of a 15-year-old River Forest resident. He was given a May 10 court date and released to his father.
