Shotgun, Loaded Pistol Found in Truck: River Forest Police Blotter

River Forest police reports, Nov. 11-18.

SUNDAY, NOV. 18

DUI Arrest

A Chicago man blew two stop signs and made erratic lane changes in the 7500 block of Division at about 1:32 a.m., police said. An officer pulled the car over on in the 8000 block of Chicago Avenue and believed the driver had been drinking.

Nicholas E. Rivera, 22, of the 4400 block of west Thomas Street in Chicago, was given field sobriety tests, arrested and taken the station where he was charged with driving under the influence or alcohol and several other traffic offenses.

During the stop, a passenger in the car got out and interfered with the officer's work, they reported. Laura Reyes, 27, of the 100 block of Silver Lane in Melrose Park, was also arrested and charged with obstructing/resisting a peace officer. She was later released on bond.

Man Charged With Unlawful Possession of Gun

An officer assigned to holiday traffic enforcement reported seeing a green Chevrolet pickup truck driving east in the center lane of the 7200 block of North Avenue at about 12:01 a.m. The truck turned sharply onto Harlem in front of a bus in the right turn only lane, nearly causing an accident.

After stopping the truck, the officer saw a 9mm semi-automatic pistol in the truck's open glove box. River Forest officers removed both occupants from the truck and seized a Beretta 92FS pistol loaded with 15 rounds, including one in the chamber. A shotgun was also seized as well.

The driver of the truck, Michael V. Dickerson, 22, of the 700 block of Cranberry Drive in Greenfield, IN, said he owned both guns, police reported. Dickerson was taken to the station where he was charged with four counts of possession of a firearm without proper identification, possession of ammunition and several traffic offenses. He was later released on bond pending trial.

Garage Burglary Reported

A resident's garage was burglarized at about 10:13 a.m. The resident told police someone entered their garage and stole a Tom Tom GPS device and a charger from an unlocked car in their garage. The loss was estimated at $200.

Juveniles Block Roadway

Three juveniles were stopped after placing orange cones in the roadway by Lincoln School to block the street. An officer reported seeing the teens get out of an SUV that had stopped in front of the school and take the cones from the school and put them in the road at 10:11 p.m. Parents were called to pick up the teens and they will appear at an adjudication hearing Jan. 7.

FRIDAY, NOV. 16

Guitar Stolen From Garage

A resident told police their garage was burglarized at about 8:42 a.m. in the 8200 block of Lake Street. The victim told police that someone entered his unlocked garage and stole a white Gibson Explorer guitar and Hartke speaker cabinet. The cabinet was found abandoned outside the garage, but the guitar was not found. Police were able to recover some evidence and the matter is still under investigation. The loss was valued at $500.

WEDNESDAY, NOV. 14

Resident Pick-Pocketed at Whole Foods

A resident shopping at Whole Foods, 7245 Lake St., told police that someone stole a wallet from her purse at about 1:29 p.m. The wallet was valued at $300 and contained identification and credit cards.

Police reviewed security footage to discover that the victim was pick-pocketed while in the produce section. The video showed a man in a long black coat signal to a female accomplice who distracted the victim while the wallet was stolen. The case has been referred to detectives.

Children's Clothing Stolen

An employee of The Children's Place clothing store, 7335 Lake St., said a man, described as black, 45 years old, of average height and build, entered the store and grabbed three piles of Children's Place brand fleece sweaters. Forty-five total sweaters were reported missing, valued at $672.75. The employee ran after the man, who was seen putting the clothes in Whole Foods shopping bags. The man saw the employee and fled on foot, last seen running westbound on Lake Street. An officer searched the area but did not find the man or the merchandise.

MONDAY, NOV. 12

Designer Wallet Stolen

A customer at Panera Bread, 7349 Lake St., said that after returning home from working at the restaurant on a laptop between 12:45 p.m. to 1:45 p.m., she could not find her wallet. The victim reported that her purse was hung on the back of her chair while working.

The loss included her designer alligator skin wallet worth $1,600, $450 in cash, debit and credit cards, her driver's license and other identification. The victim also later discovered that some of her cards were used to make more than $1000 in purchases before they were canceled.

SUNDAY, NOV. 11

Police Lend Help After Deer Hit

Police responded to the 8000 block of Chicago Avenue at about 4:41 p.m. after a motorist reported colliding with a deer. The car had no damage to it, but the deer had serious injuries to its hind legs and could not walk. After the motorist left the scene, an officer dispatched the deer to end its suffering and called forest preserve police to have it removed.
