Juvenile Caught With Pot Brownies at OPRF

Police charged a juvenile Oak Park resident with marijuana possession with intent to distribute after police found seven individually packaged pot brownies—weighing 328 grams—in his possession. He was arrested at Oak Park and River Forest High School around 11:40 a.m. and turned over to a parent, police said. 

Aggravated Battery to a Peace Officer

Police charged Seth Gibson, 19, of the 300 block of North Maple Avenue in Oak Park, with aggravated battery to a peace officer after he struck an officer at his home Monday, Jan. 6 and again on Tuesday, Jan. 21.

Police on Jan. 6 responded to a call from Gibson's mother, who reported her son was out of control and punching holes in walls. When she opened the door, Gibson pushed the door closed, striking the officer, then left the home through the back door. The officer signed a complaint for battery and returned to arrest him Jan. 21, police said. 

Police said Gibson resisted the arrest and struck the officer with an open hand. He was then subdued and charged with one count of aggravated battery to an officer and resisting arrest, in addition to the original battery charge. He was given Jan. 24 and Feb. 24 court dates and held for a bond hearing. 

Baby Food, Formula Stolen From Porch

Someone stole a box containing baby food and formula from a front porch in the 1000 block of North Elmwood Avenue between 2:20 and 5 p.m. The total estimated loss is $50, police said. 

Phone Stolen From Car

Someone ransacked a car in a garage in the 100 block of North Austin Boulevard and stole a cell phone and an owner's manual to the car between 9 p.m. Jan. 20 and 7:40 a.m. Jan. 21. The total estimated loss is $104, police said. 

Warrant: Battery

Police charged Michael Barnett, 49, of Berwyn, with a warrant out of Oak Park for battery. He was arrested at the Berwyn Police Department around 9 p.m. and held on bond. 

$1,200 in Copper Piping Stolen

Someone used a pry tool to defeat a dead bolt lock at Spannuth Boiler, 264 Madison St., and stole four milk crates containing 40 to 50 copper pipe fittings between 6 p.m. Jan. 20 and 7 a.m. Jan. 21. The total estimated loss is $1,200, police said. 

Monday, January 20

3 Teens Charged With Burglary

Three Chicago teens face burglary charges after police stopped them while riding stolen bikes in the 400 block of South Boulevard about 3:40 a.m. 

Police said Angelica Perez, 18, and two 15-year-old boys, were riding bikes that had been taken from an open garage in the 200 block of South Lombard Avenue. Perez also had three stolen GPS units, phone chargers and sunglasses in her possession, police said. 

Juvenile Reports Robbery Attempt

An Oak Park juvenile reported an attempted robbery after a man approached him in the 1000 block of Lyman Avenue, pulled him to the ground and demanded money. Police said the man grabbed the boy by the coat collar, then demanded money as he squeezed the victim's neck. The victim was able to break free and run east on Garfield Street. No loss reported. The man was described as 6'2", 175 pounds and wearing a black knit cap, black jacket and black pants.

Xbox, Laptop Stolen in Burglary

Someone stole an Xbox 360 game console and a laptop from an unlocked home in the 100 block of North Elmwood Avenue between 10:40 and 11:35 a.m. The total estimated loss is $850, police said. 

Car Break-in

Someone stole $5 in coins and a makeup back from a car with a partially opened window in the 1100 block of Highland Avenue between 10 p.m. Jan. 19 and 9:15 a.m. Jan. 20. The total estimated loss is $25, police said. 

Break-in Attempts

  • Someone tried to pry open a basement window at a home in the 200 block of South Cuyler Avenue, causing the burglar alarm to sound. No loss reported.
  • Someone tried to kick in the back door of a home in the 0-100 block of Augusta Avenue between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. The estimated cost of damage is $50, police said. 

Phone Stolen

Someone stole an unattended cell phone from the front counter of a business in the 6100 block of Roosevelt Road between 6:15 and 7 p.m. The total estimated loss is $500, police said.
