Man Found With 35 Grams of Heroin

A 28-year-old Western Springs man was found with 35 grams of heroin and charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia around 8:45 p.m.

An officer approached Justin Dougherty, 28, in the 500 block of South Humphrey Avenue to find out why he had been coming out of random garages in the alley, police said. Dougherty ran from police after the officer saw several bags of heroin in his wallet and told him he was under arrest, police said. 

He was caught in the 100 block of South Austin Avenue, charged and held for bond hearings.

Car Damage

Someone damaged a driver’s side window of a car between 6 and 11:50 p.m. in the 1100 block of South East Avenue.

BB Shot Damages Window

Someone shot a BB at a window at Cash America, 63?? North Avenue between 2:30 and 3:15 a.m.

Wallet Stolen From Unlocked Car

Someone stole a wallet containing $700 cash and several credit cards from an unlocked Toyota between 2:50 and 3 p.m. in the 700 block of Lake Street.

Electronics, Jewels Stolen 

Someone ransacked a home in the 200 block of Iowa Avenue between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. and stole a laptop and case, a 31-inch flat screen TV and jewelry. The total estimated loss was $3,816, police said.

Bike Thefts

  • Someone stole a girl’s bike from a porch in the 800 block of South Scoville Avenue between 10 a.m. June 1 and 4:40 p.m. June 3. The estimated loss is $250, police said. 
  • Someone stole a $300 girl’s bike from a garage in the 1100 block of Lyman Avenue between 8 a.m. May 20 and 2 p.m. June 3.

Warrant: Retail Theft

Serena Simons, 20, of Maywood, was arrested on a warrant for retail theft around 1:50 p.m. at DuPage County Jail. She was processed and released after posting bond.
