Wedding Rings Stolen During Burglary: Oak Park Police Blotter

Oak Park police reports, Dec. 28 - Jan. 1.

TUESDAY, JAN. 1

Property Damage

Odell Johnson, 53, of the 1800 block of south Jackson in Chicago, was arrested and charged with criminal damage to property and disorderly conduct in the 1100 block of Jackson at about 11 a.m. Johnson was held for bond proceedings.

DUI Arrest

Randy Mathias, 34, of Atlanta, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence after police pulled his vehicle over in the 400 block of south Oak Park Avenue around 7:29 a.m.

Woman Punched During Argument

A Chicago resident told police she was punched in the face during a verbal argument with a man wearing a black jacket, about 30 years old and having braided hair. The incident occurred in the 6500 block of North Avenue around 5:15 p.m. and the offender fled the scene before police arrived.

MONDAY, DEC. 31

Laptops, Jewelry Stolen During Burglary

An Oak Park resident told police that their home in the 1400 block of Austin was entered using a prying tool to break open the front door between Dec. 31 and Jan. 1. Stolen were two laptop computers, a 42-inch television and jewelry for an estimated loss of $5,850.

An Oak Park resident in the 800 block of Linden also reported a burglary of their home between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. Dec. 31. Stolen were multiple items of jewelry, such as tie bars and cuff links. A gold Hamilton pocket watch, a silver pocket watch and a brown leather jewelry box were also stolen. The total loss was estimated at $725.

Car Parts Stolen

The spare tire from a 2004 Lexus was stolen overnight between Dec. 30-31 in the 1100 block of south Harvey. The estimated loss was $500.

A catalytic converter was stolen from a 2010 Mitsubishi while it was parked in the 700 block of south Lombard overnight between Dec. 30-31. The estimated loss was $1,200.

Another catalytic converter was reported stolen in the 500 block of south Austin from a 2003 Chevrolet for an estimated loss of $1,000 during the same time period.

BB Damages Window

Someone damaged the window of a home in the 1000 block of Garfield between Dec. 28-31 with a BB from an air pistol. The damage was estimated at $400.

SATURDAY, DEC. 29

Aggravated Battery

Knox M. Jones, 19, of the 4900 block of west 30th Place in Cicero, was arrested and later charged with aggravated battery and aggravated vehicular hijacking after being involved in a physical confrontation in the 1100 block of Garfield with a Chicago resident. Jones was issued a January court date and held for bond hearings.

FRIDAY, DEC. 28

Wedding Rings Stolen

An Oak Park resident told police that their home in the 1000 block of south Kenilworth was broken into through a rear basement window between Dec. 20-28. Stolen were a platinum wedding ring, a platinum wedding band and laptop computer and an e-reader device. The estimated loss was $18,250.

Jewelry Stolen in Burglary

An Oak Park resident told police that miscellaneous jewelry was stolen from their home between Dec. 19-28. Entry was gained to the home in the 1100 block of Linden using a pry-type tool to break the rear door. The estimated loss was $610.

Tires Slashed on Car

All four tires of a resident's car parked in the 400 block of north Austin Boulevard were slashed and a black marker was used to damage the hood between 11 p.m. Dec. 27 and the following morning. The estimated loss was $500.

Brook Middle School Defaced

Someone used brown paint to write on a wall at Gwendolyn Brook Middle School between 4 p.m. on Dec. 27 and 6 a.m. Dec. 29.
