A Chicago man fended off a brazen daytime attack from an armed man trying to steal his headphones, police said.

The stick-up took place around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in the 800 block of South Oak Park Avenue, according to a police report.

The victim was approached from behind by an unknown attacker who "placed a black handgun with brown grips in his side and tried to remove the victim's headphones," the report states.

The victim "slapped the weapon away," prompting the gunman to run away toward the CTA Blue Line East Avenue platform, police said.

The attacker was described as a 19 or 20-year-old black male, about 5 foot 9 and 155 pounds with shoulder-length black hair and braids. He was last seen wearing a black shirt with white writing on the back and black and gray pants.

Anyone with information about these cases is asked to call the Oak Park Police Department at (708) 286-3800.
